(our latest steps): Ethiopia Update
September 20, 2016
Touring with His Little Feet is a certainly a life-changing experience.
Not only does the team literally travel all throughout America,
but the children are privately tutored, taught English, and
most importantly discipled.
And after a year of loving, equipping and building these children up,
they are sent on another life-changing adventure –
back in their home countries.
Auntie Hilina, Auntie Gerda and the eight Ethiopian children
that travelled with us in 2015 and 2016, have now
been in Ethiopia for three weeks.
Here is a quick look at life in Addis Ababa…
At the airport, the team was welcomed home by the director
of the children’s orphanage.
Then, upon arrival at their home,
five alumni HLF children and their caregiver welcomed the kids
with a traditional Ethiopian ceremony –
flowers, cake, drinks and their favorite popcorn!
They were happy to be home again
and share life with the other children.
After being in the states 10 months, the children were super excited to eat their favorite
Ethiopian dishes again, including doro-wit (chicken) and injera.
Ethiopia just celebrated their New Year, and so they’ve had
some extra special food like meat, eggs, and cake!
In a little over a week, the children will start a new school year.
They are excited to study hard in their new grades and
improve more this year!
Auntie Hilina visits the children’s home every morning
and continues devotions with them.
She encourages them to remember all that they have learned
while traveling with His Little Feet.
They also have scheduled devotion time each night with their caregiver,
and their own quiet time in the mornings.
Right now they are reading through the New Testament.
Their goal this New Year is to read through the New Testament by themselves.
Very ambitious!
On their first night back in Ethiopia, the team read Philippians 1.
The children reflected on how special it was that the Lord had chosen them,
not only to be in HLF, but also to be children of God!
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all,
in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.
For I am confident of this very thing,
that He who began a good work in you
will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:3-6
